good question, i missed subbing in 1/3 for x and only came up with 3 as a possible value to begin with.. Thus picked A first..

Statement (2) is not clear: what about absolute value of x - 3?

Hi, I'm terribly sorry, the 2nd part should be lx-3l NOT EQUAL to 0, so re-pasting question
Is lxl < 1?

1) lx + 1l = 2 lx-1l
2) lx-3l NOT EQUAL to 0

The question should read:

Is |x| < 1?

(1) |x + 1| = 2|x - 1|
(2) |x - 3| ≠ 0
