Is x + y negative?

(1) x is negative.
(2) y is positive.

Stat 1: we dont know value of Y, In sufficient
Stat 2: We dont know value of X : Insufficient

Combining both: we Still don't know magnitude of X and Y, May be Y is a larger number or smaller than X. Insufficient

Correct Option E

From statement 1:
we know that, X is negative but nothing is said about Y,
if Y is greater positive number than X,
then X+Y can be positive
Not Sufficient

From statement 2:
we know that Y is positive but nothing is said about X,
if X is smaller negative number than Y
then X+Y can be positive
Not Sufficient

Same with using both the statement, only sign we are aware about the variable X and Y, not the value
Hence Not Sufficient

Correct answer is Option E

Combining both 1 and 2 we cannot come to sold conclusion that question stem is negative
