Hi deepaks12988,

In these types of situations, TESTing VALUES can help you to prove whether your theories are correct or not.

Here, we're told that 3Z is EVEN. That means....

3Z could equal 0, 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, etc.

IF....
3Z = 0
Then Z = 0 and the answer to the question is YES

IF....
3X = 2
Then Z = 2/3 and the answer to the question is NO

You have to be very careful if you're trying to deal with DS questions in a conceptual way. If your knowledge of the concepts involved is PERFECT/COMPLETE, then you'll have the correct answer without too much trouble. However, if you're missing ANY part of the logic, then you'll likely get the question wrong and you won't even know it. Considering how easy it is to get this type of question correct, you shouldn't try to speed through it without doing any work.

GMAT assassins aren't born, they're made,
Rich

Please help!

Is Z even? If 3z is even.

As per my understanding yes, because if 3z is even then z has to be even. Because 3 * Even will only be hence, z should be even.

Is my thought process right?

The poster above has neglected the case when z=2/3 which will give you an even number for 3z. If it is mentioned that z has to be an integer, then yes, z will be even if 3z is even but if it is not mentioned that z must be an integer then this statement will not be sufficient.

Hope this helps.

You're absolutely right, of course, my thought process is only valid if z is an integer. I will edit my post to avoid confusion in the future for other when they see it! Thanks!
