Hi,
I am going to apply to ISB in the coming admission cycle starting September'2015. I wrote GMAT last year and got a score of 740 (Q49, V41, IR8 and AWA 5). As of today I have 11.5 years of experience in a product based IT company and I am working as a Principal Software Engineer. My post-MBA goal is to get into product management.
I would like to get advice from all the gurus on how and what shall I prepare, starting today, so that my chances of getting admitted in ISB will improve.
Many thanks for your help in advance.
Regards,
Niraj
Hi Niraj,
Your GMAT score is very good especially given that fact that applicants with 10+ years of experience are generally not able to crack good score on GMAT and AWA and IR score are also good. Product management is an ideal post MBA career option for you given your product engg experience. You have to focus on highlighting non technical aspects of your experience e.g. Understanding of Product feature prioritisation, product life cycle, team work etc and top it up with the knowledge you will get at ISB on market entry, consumer behaviour, competitive analysis etc to say that you will make a good product manager and will succeed in companies like Google, Amazon, Flipkart, Paypal etc.
Your story is not tough to sell.
In addition to this, see what you can highlight from your extra currics. That will help you add another dimension to your profile.
