- The underlined part in the original sentence is a result of Non-underlined part. Thus AND can be used in such scenario. Thus INCORRECT
(B) before their outstanding Rembrandt collection had been acquired
- Museum is Singular in number but THEIR is plural. So pronoun does not match in number. Moreover use of ACQUIRED changes the meaning of the original sentence. It now means that Museum had the "Rembrandt collection" & it was acquired by someone. Thus INCORRECT
(C) and finally it had an outstanding Rembrandt collection there -
Same error as in option A. Moreover, there is no need to use placeholder THERE. Thus INCORRECT.
(D) but finally an outstanding Rembrandt collection was acquired at last -
No need to use passive voice. Thus INCORRECT
(E) to acquire its outstanding Rembrandt collection-
CORRECT
