So adjective as to is the correct idiom and concise . So A is correct;
So that she would be repelling is verbose; so C isn’t contending

Very correctly said. So...as to... is the idiom used in it.

The idiom is 'so....as.' As long as you know that you can quickly get to answer (A). Once you've identified the correct idiom, do not spend time parsing the other choices if none have the correct idiom.

D & E are out.
For me its between A & C. So ...as to or So X, that Y.
In C we have a pronoun error. It is not clear she refers to young lady or Jane Austen.
B has idiom error.
So Answer is A.

Jane Austen, shortly after she completed the book Emma, wrote of her concern that she had created in her title character a
young lady so outspoken as to repel any readers expecting the sweet-natured heroine typical of English novels.

A. so outspoken as to repel
hold
B. so outspoken she would have repelled
wrong tense;so outspoken and she would.... has no connectors/pronoun in between -incorrect
C. so outspoken that she would be repelling
would be repelling is wrong tense as per the intended meaning
D. outspoken enough that she may repel
after enough the sentence should have followed "to", so incorrect
E. outspoken enough as for repelling
verb+ing is incorrectly used-incorrect

(A) wins

why would in C is wrong

pls, help. Thank you
