Since the distance travelled is same...
avg speed =\(\frac{2ab}{(a+b)}= \frac{2*60*30}{(30+60)} = 40\)

Since the distance traveled is same, we can apply direct formula= 2XS1XS2/S1+S2

2X60X30/90= 40 'C' is the answer

Average speed = the total distance / the total time. The first 20 miles took 1/3 hr and the rest 20 miles took 2/3 hr. Then, the average speed=(20 miles + 20 miles)/(1/3 + 2/3) hr= 40 miles/1hr. Hence, the correct answer is C.

Found this to be the most simpler method
20miles/60+20miles/30=40miles/x
or, 20/60+40/60= 40/x
or, 1=40/x
or, x=40

For solving such questions, we have the formula of harmony average( mean):
n / 1/x + 1/x'
That is, 2/ 1/60 + 1/30=
120/3=40
Option C
