I don't know if this guy has come up on your radar screens in terms of analyst recruits, but you need to be warned about him. I should have been tipped off by the fact that he ran a "5K marathon" on his resume.
I just figured something got lost in translation.
I interviewed him on campus, and while he was pretty weird/intense, he seemed like somebody who would crank and potentially make for a good analyst, so we waved him in for an office visit.
Things started going bad for him when I got a call from our HR department about him during our Superday. In making his travel arrangements with our travel agent, he had apparently made a big stink about needing to stay at the Four Seasons and blew up on the travel person. It was apparently bad enough that she went to the trouble to inform our HR department.
Our Superday reviews on him were pretty mixed, nonetheless. He had spent a summer at Gulfstar, so I did a bit of checking on him there, and it became clear that they were also very unimpressed with the way that he carried himself. So, we dinged him, but that is not where the story ends.
He had told one of the associates in our office that he was in the second round of interviews for MS's Palo Alto office. Well, our associate happened to mention this to his friend that works in the MS Palo Alto office and the associate at MS said that Jeff had had only had a phone interview but had indicated that he had an offer from BAML.
When the MS team asked him to send proof of his offer, he manufactured the email below and forwarded to the MS team.
We have notified UT of this joker's behavior, but needless to say, this guy shouldn't be able to get a job at McDonalds after a stunt like this.

This is what Jeffrey sent Morgan Stanley to prove he received an offer from your firm. Given you told me you dinged him, should I assume this is fake? If so, that's unbelievable and his school should be notified, he shouldn't get a job anywhere on Wall Street.

This would have been a funny story one year ago when I was applying to bschools, but now, stories like this tick me off because it's stunts like this that makes recruiting exceptionally more difficult and painful for the rest of us because more firms will increase resources to potentially identify people like him....and that affects negatively on the rest of us in the bschool, looking for internships or jobs.

Same thing applies to the reason why KROLL is such a pain for many of us. Bschools have been burned by applicants like this in the past (with lies and misrepresentation of facts) and employed agencies like KROLL, who will make your life miserable after accepting an offer of admissions. BOOOO

My friend fwded this to me this morning. He works at a VC in Austin and said they had interviewed Jeffrey for an analyst position last month and decided not to move forward with him. This link gives a pretty good synopsis.

It's a shame because he has really good grades on his resume. Without the sneakiness and the apparent attitude (the Four Seasons? Really?) he probably could have gotten a decent job offer somewhere. I don't feel sorry for him though as this was definitely his own doing.

Grades don't matter when you are a disgraceful person. I know the BofA representative mentioned in this, and feel sorry for her being a victim of such fraud, but it is a wash for her I guess. I can't see how it is a shame, unless you are observing that some of his talent is wasted on him.

The idea that a guy who can't get in at BofA due to being an arse would get anywhere with Tiger Global, Soros, Tudor and others on the dealbreaker list is crazy.

Seems I might know a dealbreaker poster if they can outright say he was at a Wagner class (Stern does have winter classes for PT). The University of Edinburgh thing is a complete misstatement (there is simply a School of Law, artistic license) and there are some dreadful grammatical errors in there for a resume. How the hell do you do, as he presents it, four concurrent degrees at college?!

The Four seasons is really the least of his problems - in part through it being stupidly located for where the interviews would be, and because BofA/ML will put him up in pretty pleasant midtown identikit hotel land.

nink - comfort yourself that he is an analyst. Though some of the stuff I hear of being done by MBA students.... Oh, and try and send me a PM (I will try to remember to tomorrow) - I think I might have something that you may help with. I feel you would be interested, but the NYC - Yale distance may be a bit of a stretch for what it is.

I agree; he is a disgraceful person and I'm not saying that his grades should mitigate that. I was saying it's a shame because he seems (as long as his resume is truthful, which, I also agree, has some weird things written on it) like he has some academic potential and it is completely wasted on a person like him with no moral compass.

I've seen some good resume padding, but this kid is good. I'd hired him based on the resume.
