Joan and Carl played together as a team in the game of Smart Business against the team of Mark and Sandra. In this game, the score of a team is calculated as the average (arithmetic mean) of the individual scores achieved by each player of the team. What was the score of Joan and Carl’s team?
(1) Joan scored 10 points more than Mark and Carl scored 30 points less than Sandra.
(2) Had Mark scored 30 points more, his team’s score would have been 50% greater than the opposite team’s score.

Statement 1:
J = M + 10
C = S - 30
J + C = M + S - 20
Not Sufficient

Statement 2:
M + 30 + S = 1.5 (opp team)
We don't have the opp team's score - Insufficient

Statement 1 & 2
M + S + 30 = 1.5 (M+S-20)
M + S + 30 = 1.5M + 1.5S - 30
0.5 M + 0.5S = 60
Hence (M+S)/2 = 60

Answer is C

Detail Solution -
Requirement (J+C)/2 = ???, absolute value == ?
1) J=M+10 and C=S-30-----> J+C = M+S-20----->(J+C)/2 = (M+S)/2 -10 ------Not Sufficient....we don't have idea of M+S = ??? ---A and D out
2) If M---->M*1.5 , then (J+C)/2*1.5 = (M+S)/2-------------------Not Sufficent....we don't have value of M+S=???-----B out
now 1+2 --
from 1 --(M+S)/2 = (J+C)/2 +10 putting in 2
(J+C)/2*1.5 = (J+C)/2 +10 -----------------here we are getting value of (J+C)/2 = 20 --- Sufficient... Hence C is correct Answer.

1)
J = M + 10
C = S - 30

Insufficient

2)
(M+30+S)/2=1.5(C+J)/2

Insufficient

1&2)
(J-10+30+30+C)/2 = 1.5 (C+J)/2
<=> J+C+50 = 1.5 (C+J)
<=> 50 = (C+J)/2 => Score of Joan and Carl’s team
