John asked Jane to help him move the dining table, but she refused to do it, claiming her back hurt.

A. table, but she refused to do it
B. table, but she refused to do that
C. tables, but she refused to do so
D. tables, but she refused to do it
E. table, but she refused to do so

C and D are cut out because the noun is plural, i.e. Tables.
A and B are cut out because of the pronounss it and that. A pronoun refers to a previously mentioned verb. Whereas here, Jane declines to do the act or the verb, i.e. move. Hence, use of phrase 'to do so' will be correct in order to mention the previous verb.

The correct answer is E
