Answer: E , i suppose

One Major major mistakes in the original sentence is 'he thinks he is better than everyone else' - who thinks who is better - does paul think that john is better than others or vice versa. Also i guess the sentence implies that paul thinks that he himself his better than others.

So in that sense, because it cannot be: John like paul due to subject verb agreement error. Similarly it cannot be that paul think - instead it should be paul thinkS he is better

Both John and Paul are singular and must be followed by singular verbs "likes" and "thinks"
Only Option E, corrects both these errors and keep the meaning of the original sentence intact.
