Solution

Given:
• Final grade is calculated from the mean of the test scores
• They are allowed to drop the lowest score before calculating the final grade
• Joseph received scores of {67, 82, 73, 91, 77, 75} on his tests

To find:
• The final grade rounded to the nearest integer

Approach and Working:
• The least score among the given set of scores = 67
• The sum of the remaining scores = 82 + 73 + 91 + 77 + 75 = 398
• Thus, mean = $$\frac{398}{5} = 79.6 ≃ 80$$

Hence, the correct answer is Option C

E. 82

Since 67 is the lowest score and will be dropped, the final grade is:

(82 + 73 + 91 + 77 + 75)/5 = 398/5 = 79.6 ≈ 80

So because of this, we can remove 67

(73 + 75 + 77 + 82 + 91) / 5

398/ 5

79.6

80

C

Drop 67 since it is lowest

=> sum of all the numbers excluding 67= 398
=>Avg =398/5 = 79.6 ~80

Option C is correct.
