3 Deadly Mistakes You Must Avoid in Time and Work Questions – Practice question 2

Justin runs a car rental business where he rents out cars on a fixed hourly rate. One day Vicky rented a car from Justin for some hours and paid Justin the rent amount $396, which is non-refundable. However, due to some emergency call, Vicky had to pre-empt his job and returned the car 6 hours early – which resulted in an effective extra income of $11 per hour for Justin. For how many hours Vicky originally hired the car?

    A. 11 hours
    B. 12 hours
    C. 15 hours
    D. 18 hours
    E. 24 hours

Hi...
Another quick approach could be...
6 less hours is resulting in increase of an INTEGER, so both initial hour, say x, and x-6 should be factors of 396..
Let's check..
1) 11..
11 & 5 are not
2) 12
12 & 6 are, so keep it
3) 15
15 & 9 are not
4) 18
18 & 12 are, so keep it
5)24..
24 is not and 18 is so out...

Now two choices..
1) 12 & 6..
12 hrs mean 33 per hour ..
6 hrs mean 66, but there is increase of 66-33=33, so out

Remaining is the answer
18&12..
18 hrs means 22 per hour and 12 means 33
So increase of 11 per hour
