IMO C - history books are proofs

(B) No cars manufactured after 1976 were found in Ambrose, but cars manufactured before that year were found in abundance. - not sure the cars of which year were on street can be 1975 , can be of 1960 (which is earlier to 1976), hence not sure which year the tornado damaged the city.

Answer

OA: B

Here is the reasoning based from the answer:

According to choice B, only cars made before 1976 were found in Ambrose. This would provide evidence of people living in Ambrose before 1976 but not after, suggesting that the 1976 tornado caused the town's destruction. Choice B is correct.

Choice C says that most historical textbooks focusing on Kansas say that a tornado hit there in 1976. Since the passage says that a tornado probably occurred in Ambrose at some point, this answer simply restates what is already stated in the passage.

I as well went for answer C. My reasoning was that the prompt contains a hypothesis. Answer C confirms it.

What am I missing that would make it B?

Thanks,

IMO B.

B specifically refers to Ambrose and C is broader in scope by mentioning Kansas.

my ans is C only. B just strenghtens only half the part that something happenef in 1976 but it never strengthens the other part that it was caused by tornado. C does that by strengthening the point provided.

what is the source ?

This was from the Knewton Prep Course.

After discussing it with a TA, he explained that C essentially repeats the phrase in the prompt "was caused by a tornado that struck Kansas in 1976." So C doesnt strengthen the argument.

B does provide additional evidence that links the destruction of the town to the same year that the tornado was reported.
