KAPLAN GMAT Complete 2017 vs MGMAT

Question

dear experts,
between Kaplan complete 2017 and MGMAT books, which is better overall? or better is one book better in one topic than other? I have both  MY  disposal

Hi adityanarayanan01,

A few weeks back, you stated that your score goal was 600+. Have you taken any practice CATs since then? If you have, then how did you score (including the Quant and Verbal Scaled Scores)? I ask because if you're planning to take the GMAT in a few weeks, then you have to nitpick your score results and determine the areas that you need to focus on. If your specific 'needs' are in just a few categories, then you won't necessarily need a full book (or series of books) to get to your goal score. In that way, you shouldn't be comparing one full book to another - you should be looking for the study materials that best serve your specific needs.

In my opinion the MGMAT books are far superior:

Kaplan's books are written for the below-average to average GMAT scorer trying to reach an above-average score, and are simplified for ease of use.

MGMAT's books are written for the average to above-average GMAT scorer trying to reach an elite-level score, and try to cover every nook and cranny of the test.

Somewhat ironically, both companies are now owned by Kaplan. Welcome to capitalism. ; )

The study method of every individual is different, so one course that suits you might not be good for the other person. The best way to decide about a course is by going through the reviews. You can find various reviews here: https://gmatclub.com/reviews/gmat_courses?fl=menu You need to build the concepts/fundamentals before you jump in solving the problems. You can do so by choosing one of the following ways: 1. In person classes/private tutoring 2. Online classes 3. Self paced online preparatory course 4. Book heavy approach Whatever you choose, make sure that you choose one. Because GMAT tests you on some concepts and fundamentals that you can learn from a course. Most of the preparatory companies including ours offer a free trial of our course. You can take the trial and see if the course suits your needs. In addition to the preparatory material, buy the Official Guides(both the Official Guide and the Verbal Review), Question Pack 1 and the 4 official mock CATs. They should be an indispensable part of your preparation. You need close to 3 months to prepare well for the GMAT. 1. Understand the concepts and fundamentals before jumping into problem solving 2. Solve full length CATs including AWA and IR. You can get two free GMAT Prep mock CATs and can purchase two more from mba.com 3. Make sure you solve the official questions from the Official Guide

On gmat practice test no 2. i scored a 610.(Q42, V31) . i understand my weak areas are CR and RC on the verbal. on the quant side, some topics like probability and permutaions and combinations are my very weak areas. can you please suggest if a 700 score is possible? if yes whta refinements do i undertake? if not, what should be a achievable targe?

another issue i faced is exhaustion due to the lengthiness of the exam. it's very difficult to focus roughly in the last third of the exam, due to exhaustion creeping in. can you please advise me on these areas?

Thanks for the response. i gave a practice CAT on GMAT prep. and scored a 610 (Q41 V31). my weak areas are CR and RC. on CR , if i have to quantify, i get about 6/10 answers correct, but i want to improve this. RC really slowed me down during the verbal section. the language and topics i read were indeed tough to comprehend much less answer through.

IR was a washout with only score of 5.

how do i improve on this understanding my date for the gmat is about 2 1/2 weeks away??

Hi adityanarayanan01,

Assuming that your score goal is still 600+, then you appear to be in position to hit that goal. If you're now aiming at a 700+ score, then you'll likely need to spend another 2 months of consistent, guided study to get to that level.

Endurance 'issues' and fatigue are areas that impact many Test Takers, which is why it's important to take FULL-LENGTH CATs (with the Essay and IR sections) at regular intervals (1 CAT every 1-2 weeks). You can use those experiences to help define when you get most tired and then practice how to best combat those circumstances.
