Any body in same boat

venky,

Sorry to hear bout your situation but AFAIK, Kellogg doesn't give a TOEFL waiver!! I know of a person (Indian IT, same stats as yours ) who was asked to take the TOEFL. He applied to H/S/W/K/C and the only reason he took his toefl was coz' kellogg had asked him to( the other 4 were pretty convinced of his english skills) . He tried very hard to get a waiver but of no use. eventually he took the toefl but kellogg dinged him without interview  . He got into Chicago though and is waiting to get his hands on that kellogg lady who did all this to him :)

Sounds scary looks like i will start studying for TOEFL
Actually when i was researching schools All schools seem to waive TOEFL off if undegrad would be in English medium of instruction
I overlooked this requirement of Kellogg and submitted
Its totally my fault I agree
I ahve sent them an email, called up and left a message and will be sending a Fax today but I think from the Info you have given I will start TOEFL prep right away

I had given TOEFL years ago (now expired ) and had 670/677 but surprised Kellogg is so Hard :(

Anyway no time for Cribs Time to take actiaon ASAP

Anytips on TOEFL in this forum I can see only GMAT every where :)

Venky - where was your schooling? Hjort's section has the TOEFL profile for Kellog, and it looks like they have a clear rule they apply without any "understanding" taken on it.

While it may seem unreasonable, it strikes me they are applying a rule without offering any flexibility on it.

My schooling was In India :(

My app status just changed yesterday and it shows my TOEFL status shows incomplete  :x

I am of Indian demography
I have 16 years of education (including my undergrad and high school education ) with English as medium of instruction
I have 6 years in Indian IT Industry (Big 3) (known for its skilled english speaking workers) and one year of work exp in U.K
I have requested for a TOEFL waiver
I cant believe they cant give me one.

Totally upset :devil :bebe :( :2gunfire: :madd :war

have almost similar stats....got no waiver from Haas...stupid reason being that it's a University of Berkeley requirement which they can't waive off...didn't apply to Kellogg....

however, TOEFL is no big deal....just go through the free sample test they have (after you have registered) in order to familiarize yourself with the test format...i scored 114 on iBT without any prep (out of 120)....

so, it's more pain going through the whole process than the actual test itself...good luck!

got mine:

All the required elements of your application are complete.

If your interview has been completed, the application has been submitted for review to the admissions committee. If your interview has not been conducted, the application will be submitted to the admissions committee upon completion of the interview. The next status check update will be the admission decision (Admit, Waitlist or Deny). As the majority of decisions are updated twice a week, we recommend checking the status on Tuesday and Friday, between 4:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. Central Standard Time. Please note the majority of decisions will be posted during the last several weeks of the deadline.

Venky - its probably not a big deal, go take the test. Its probably not that hard and you seem to have a handle on English. Best of luck - as I said before, if your last hopes are hinging on Kellogg don't sweat too much - its a crap shoot to get in there...

luminos24 where did you go for your undergrad? I applied to Berkeley and did not have to take Toefl even though i am international. You dont have to take toefl if you studied in the US.

I have registered for iBT the earliest date I could get is 24 saturday :(

They have mentioned about late test registration after 3 days but while placing an order I couldnt get that option and the earliest was on 24-Feb

Just A question it wasnt clear from the bulletin if the iBT scores are available immediately after the test. Does it take a lot of time?

Is there a better option?

Anderson, Ross, Darden, Haas, UNC did waive the TOEFL requirement where as schools like wharton give toefl waiver if u did ur undergrad in india

SO i was forced to appear for TOEFL, as i planned to apply for Ross,UCLA and Darden...Bcos of this fkng requirement and lack of TOEFL Dates in December , i dropped Ross and darden from R2...learned the painful way to PLAN MUCH MUCH Ahead!!!

TOEFL IBT takes 15 BUSINESS DAYS ( 21 calendar Days ) to report the score online......Appeared for TOEFL on Jan 26 and UCLA is yet to get my score.....

You get a score range. For eg, when I took the test (CBT) I got a range score of about 250 - 297. Then when the essays were corrected, I got the actual score of 290 (2 weeks later).

Since the writing score is not actually a "stand alone" score, but rather a part of the reading/writing score it's not exactly the same as GMAT. Make sure you do great and your range will indicate you are almost certain to pass the minimum mark. Less than 3 in the essays is disastrous, so they would assume that if your range is quite close to the minimum you should be fine.
