I would agree with Rhyme - way too much effort to call many of them.

I did see something for one of my schools (Yale? Stanford? Don't remember.) that said if your recommender submits his form from John.Smith@gmail.com, they are more likely to check into it than if it comes from jsmith@mycurrentworkplace.com.

I read this as well, and I am bit concerned since one of my recs will most likely come from a generic domain email address since he now runs his own business. I guess there's nothing to worry about since they will just call him up to verify that he did write the rec and may ask him some questions about what he wrote, but anything out of the ordinary at this point is giving me the heebie jeebies.

One of mine came from a non work addy because the guy said he preferred I used his personal email. So i did. No big deal.

Should I make any mention of it in my optional essay, or should I just wait for it to play out since they will most likely call him to verify?

DEFINITELY don't mention it.

They know what they're doing and what their priorities are. They'll do their job; you do yours. I think you'd sound fishy or paranoid or something.

Yeah that's what I was thinking, but sometimes it feels like if I eat waffles instead of cheerios on my app day then it needs to be mentioned in the optional essay.

No, waffles are fine, but YOU MUST AVOID PANCAKES. At all costs. It's the automatic ding breakfast.

Fear & Loathing - that's what it is!

I could not figure out why I hated the new avatar so much, and THAT'S IT! I HATED that movie. Couldn't possibly have hated a movie more. Ugh. Thanks, you figured it out for me.

Woo. Now I can relax.

No, wait...no I can't. Essaysessaysessays. Oh, man...almost over.

LOL. Mad props for getting the reference.

It was either that or these more offensive options:

I've got a few thousand cliched images like this hanging about somewhere. I should post the zip one day.

I've heard of some Universities that check recos and other data via e-mail. They only check admits and they subcontract this service to some company.

Cheers. L.

I think Haas mentioned Kroll somewhere during app process.

I wonder how they handle the situation when no one at employer's/recommender's office speaks English.
