Isn't K-F's early action round binding?

KFBS is binding in that I would lose the $2,500 on the deposit if I opted not to enroll.

From the KFBS website:

Early Action
Our first cycle, October 18, 2013, is the Early Action deadline. Early Action is an option for applicants who know for certain that they will attend UNC Kenan-Flagler if admitted. Early Action provides applicants with the certainty of learning their decision by December 13, 2013. Admitted applicants in the Early Action cycle will be required to submit a $2,500 non-refundable enrollment deposit by January 6, 2014, in order to secure a space in the class (versus the regular deadline enrollment deposit of $1000). You should not apply for Early Action if you are not prepared to commit immediately to attending UNC.

Oh... Understood.. :)

Between Ross and Johnson, I think Ross wins hands down for a career in consulting. The MAP program is awesome and unique and Cornell's MBA program looked more finance focussed to me. Ross is also one of the very few schools with large classes and yet focus on the collaborative culture.

K-F has strong presence with McKinsey and imo a better "consulting" program than Johnson. But taking your personal reasons into account such as proximity to family and connections and also the ivy brand name, I would say in your case Johnson seems to be a better option.

I agree with MacFauz Ross is definitely still a powerhouse in terms of careers in consulting. I didn't appreciate that you are currently deployed so admit weekends are not an option. Reach out to the consulting clubs and career office at each school to get more detailed statistics about placement into consulting. Try not to be swayed by the initial 30% of the class goes into consulting type of stat because it may be that a school places less people into consulting but in actual fact 80% of people interested in consulting received an offer.

Speaking in terms of quality of students and overall reputation in Brazil, I would rank them: Ross, Cornell, UNC.

Good luck with the decision!

UPDATE:

I was accepted into Ross (Michigan), wait-listed at McDonough (Georgetown), and denied at Darden (UVA). I plan on removing myself from McDonough's wait-list after I submit my deposit.

So now my options are Kenan-Flagler (UNC), Johnson (Cornell), and Ross (Michigan). Again I am looking to enter strategic consulting in the northeast post-MBA.

Any thoughts?

Congratulations on being accepted to these great schools. I am also a prospective applicant like you and have been accepted into Ross and waitlisted at Kellogg (and still waiting at Haas).

With your goals of strategic consulting, I think Ross is the best fit. Through the MAP program, you pretty much get a 2nd "internship" that is paid for by the school (through your own tuition, but you know...) and can also do a standard internship at MBB. I think Cornell's NE alumni network may be better for business school but Ross has a fantastic university brand and imo, is much more fun of a place (due to football culture, campus culture, etc.) than Cornell.

Just my two cents.

Congrats on the admits. Great problem to have - I'm assuming you didn't get to go to Johnson's military preview day in November since you're deployed. Feel free to PM me if you want a veteran's insight (albeit one that isn't pursuing consulting) at Johnson.

Hi Leshota,

I'm currently at Ross (MBA2). If you go to a top 20 school, you'll find the recruiting stats to be very very very similar. Geography preference is basically a non-issue, as for all nationally staffed consulting firms, you get the offer then pick the office. For the regionally staffed ones, you interview for the specific office.

To help you with your decision process: Check the schools detailed recruiting profiles to see what schools have better representation at the specific firms you're most interested in. Use that to sort of benchmark where you have a strong alum representation. Also, feel free to reach out to the respective school's consulting clubs and ask about what you're interested in. Club officers will be very candid with you and offer you very solid advice.

As to the non-academic stuff: Yes, Ross is a lot of fun because it's a big 10 school and a large campus overall. No shortage of things to do, lots of surrounding areas and activities always afoot.

I'm available if you'd like to talk more. Just PM me.
