A. of paying homage to the late fashion designer, who was the founder of the Chanel brand and was credited (Correct)

B. of paying homage to the late fashion designer that had been founding the Chanel brand and was crediting (Incorrect)

C. for paying homage to the late fashion designer while founding the Chanel brand and being credited (Incorrect)

D. to pay homage to the late fashion designer while founding the Chanel brand and being credited (Incorrect)

E. to pay homage to the late fashion designer and who was the founder of the Chanel brand and was crediting (Incorrect)

Option A is correct because of the correct usage of word "who" in the sentence which modifies about the late fashion designer who founded the Chanel brand. In addition to that of paying homage also matches is also grammatically correct and goes with the phrase "was his way".

Must be (A) with 24ymk96 on this one....

1. Way of = Manner of
2. Credited with = Correct Idiomatic usage..

Thus, in sentence (A) we have -

Lagerfeld's Silent Film was his way of paying homage to the late fashion designer, who was the founder of the Chanel brand and was credited in the post-World War I era with liberating women from the constraints of the "corseted silhouette."

A. of paying homage to the late fashion designer, who was the founder of the Chanel brand and was credited

best parallelism issue free and clear meaning above all.

B. of paying homage to the late fashion designer that had been founding the Chanel brand and was crediting

wrong verb used, although it should use past tense but founding is meaning that the founding went on going rather than just found.

C. for paying homage to the late fashion designer while founding the Chanel brand and being credited

meaning error paying and founding done by the same person? No.

D. to pay homage to the late fashion designer while founding the Chanel brand and being credited

same error as in C.

E. to pay homage to the late fashion designer and who was the founder of the Chanel brand and was crediting

tense error, was creditiing?

There may be no best/excellent answers, or a there may be a few excellent answers!

Official Explanation:

The correct idiomatic expression is way of. In addition, the verbs in the underlined section have to be parallel, and was the founder and was credited have the same form and the same tense. The original sentence is grammatically correct and logically sound, meaning (A) is the correct answer.
