Re: Lagerfeld's Silent Film was his way of paying homage to the late [#permalink]
Lagerfeld's Silent Film was his way of paying homage to the late fashion designer, who was the founder of the Chanel brand and was credited in the post-World War I era with liberating women from the constraints of the "corseted silhouette."

A. of paying homage to the late fashion designer, who was the founder of the Chanel brand and was credited

best parallelism issue free and clear meaning above all.

B. of paying homage to the late fashion designer that had been founding the Chanel brand and was crediting

wrong verb used, although it should use past tense but founding is meaning that the founding went on going rather than just found.

C. for paying homage to the late fashion designer while founding the Chanel brand and being credited

meaning error paying and founding done by the same person? No.

D. to pay homage to the late fashion designer while founding the Chanel brand and being credited

same error as in C.

E. to pay homage to the late fashion designer and who was the founder of the Chanel brand and was crediting

tense error, was creditiing?

The best/excellent answers get kudos, which will be awarded after the answer is revealed.
There may be no best/excellent answers, or a there may be a few excellent answers!

Official Explanation:

The correct idiomatic expression is way of. In addition, the verbs in the underlined section have to be parallel, and was the founder and was credited have the same form and the same tense. The original sentence is grammatically correct and logically sound, meaning (A) is the correct answer.

I have a doubt.

If option E says
to pay homage to the late fashion designer who was the founder of the Chanel brand and was credited
can it be the Answer?
because way to is not a wrong idiom right?

Way for is an incorrect idiom so eliminate C. The progressive tense in B is incorrect because we are not emphasizing the time period over which it was done but just that it was completed. In general progressive tenses should only be used when necessary (which is only when we are emphasizing time periods). D is incorrect because the modifier "while founding" is ambiguous. Who is doing the founding is unclear. E is incorrect because of parallelism. We cannot put thee who after the and since there was no who before the and.
