Large banks, hedge funds and private investors hungry for new and lucrative opportunities are bankrolling other people‘s lawsuits, pumping hundreds of millions of dollars for medical malpractice claims, divorcing battles and class actions against corporations.

A. are bankrolling other people‘s lawsuits, pumping hundreds of millions of dollars for medical malpractice claims, divorcing battles and class actions against corporations

B. will bankroll other people‘s lawsuits, pump hundreds of millions of dollars into medical malpractice claims, divorce battles and class actions against corporations

C. are bankrolling other people‘s lawsuits, pumping hundreds of millions of dollars into medical malpractice claims, divorce battles and class actions against corporations

D. to bankroll other people‘s lawsuits, pumping hundreds of millions of dollars into medical malpractice claims, for divorce battles and class actions against corporations

E. are bankrolling other people‘s lawsuits, for pumping hundreds of millions of dollars into medical malpractice claims, for divorce battles and class actions against corporations

Can someone explain how option C is correct

IMO - Option 'C' has list but it doesn't have marker at the end of the list

"pumping..... " is a present participle modifier that modifies the entire previous clause " Large banks...... are bankrolling other people‘s lawsuits". The present participle modifier "pumping..." depicts how Large banks etc. are bankrolling other people's money; "pumping" and "bankrolling" are not parallel items in a list.

Does this answer your query?

Changes the meaning. It seems that that aim of Large banks, hedge funds and private investors is to pump million dollars and divorce battles

I read it somewhere in Manhattan book that when you have two actions of different hierarchy happening ex, one series of action leading to another one; it is always recommended to use two different parallelisms to differentiate between them. So, investors are doing bankrolling and pumping of money into medical, divorce and class.

A. are bankrolling other people‘s lawsuits, pumping hundreds of millions of dollars for medical malpractice claims, divorcing battles and class actions against corporations. this option is incorrect ; Divorcing is not part of the list are bankrolling and pumping rather divorcing is part of the list of malpractice claims, divorce battles and class actions bla bla
B. will bankroll other people‘s lawsuits, pump hundreds of millions of dollars into medical malpractice claims, divorce battles and class actions against corporations - this option is incorrect ; explanation same as A
C. are bankrolling other people‘s lawsuits, pumping hundreds of millions of dollars into medical malpractice claims, divorce battles and class actions against corporations
D. to bankroll other people‘s lawsuits, pumping hundreds of millions of dollars into medical malpractice claims, for divorce battles and class actions against corporations ; incorrect option ; should be malpractice claims, divorce battles (for is incorrectly used before divorce)
E. are bankrolling other people‘s lawsuits, for pumping hundreds of millions of dollars into medical malpractice claims, for divorce battles and class actions against corporations. Incorrect option ; explanation same as option D

Left with option C ; corrects the mistake in other options.
Hope this explanation is helpful for some of of you !!
