Law firm A receives cost by charging a fixed cost $a plus an additional expense $b per hour and law firm B receives cost by charging a fixed cost $c plus an additional expense $d per hour. For a certain legal action, is the total cost received by law firm A less than the cost received by law firm B?
1) a+b < c+d
2) each of law firms A, B has worked 10 additional hours
a+b < c+d doesnt give a picture whether a + h1.b is > c + h2 d. No. of hours h1 and h2 for the two firms can be anything which will influence the result.
So 1 is not sufficient.
2. a + 10b > c + 10 d .. a, b, c and d can be anything.....so we cannot find which cost is greater.
Even if we combine 1 and 2
Firm 1 cost - a+10b,
Firm 2 cost - c + 10 d
Now if a+b < c +d, the comparison has to be for 9b and 9d means between b and d. So b can be greater than d or less than d.
So even after combining 1 and 2, the question could not be answered.
Hence E.
