Letter of recommendation

Question

My boss just said that he is retiring next month. I had planned to ask him my lor as he has mentored me for more than a year and he knows my capability best. 
Since he is not joining anywhere else how do I give a personal e mail id for thé letter of recommendation.

First of all - congrats. That’s a fantastic situation. It means you don’t have to necessarily tell your employer which is generally a big concern most people have with asking for recommendations.

Second - I think in this instance it shouldn’t be an issue. You have to put in your supervisor or supervisors info in the app and your relation to him. You can say retired boss or something and his email. Hard to question that. If you really are not certain though, just check with the school for any avoidance of doubt

And what about isb and iim( for 1 year course.) Any idea ?

Hi shramana,

It should not be a problem to give LOR through a personal email ID. Many prefer not to use official email ID for sending LORs as there could be privacy concerns.

I agree with others that this should not be an issue. If there is not space to clarify within the application, you could always explain the situation briefly within the optional essay.

Hi,

This is not an issue at all. The main thing to consider is do you think this is the right recommender?

Whether your recommender is using a personal email (they might chose to use one even if they are working to avoid using their official email) is much less an issue.
