Ain't here question ambiguous? Instead of "3 times more than" shouldn't it be "3 times that of"..

As I understand,

3 times more than should mean

y= x + 3x

Let me know if this interpretation is wrong.

Lilac has three times more Barbie dolls than Orly. If Lilac gives 6 dolls to Nirit, she would have 21 dolls left. How many dolls does Orly have?

A. 5.
B. 7.
C. 9.
D. 11.
E. 13.

We can create the equations:

L = 3Y

Y = L/3

and

L - 6 = 21

L = 27

So, Orly has 27/3 = 9 dolls.
