FROM THE STEM LET THEIR DISTANCES FROM FEMTOM

Du = X , Dl = 2x


from one

in four hours

U COVERED X-10 IN FOUR HOURS
L COVERED 2X-10 IN FOUR HOURS

Ru = x-10 / 4

Rl = 2x-10 / 4

the ratios will still depend on x........insuff

from two the hypotynus is 25sqrt 2

thus x^2 +(2x)^2 = (25sqrt 2 )^2

5x^2 = 1250

thus x = 5 sqrt 10

Let Sl be speed of Lionel and Su be that of Ursula

Initially Lionel is 2x away from destination and Ursula x miles from destination.

So from (1) in 4 hours noth are x miles away from destination

Su*4 + x = Sl*4 ------(1)

Since time taken is same as 4 hours

(2x -10)/Sl = x-10/Su-----(2)

From 1 and 2 we get the speed ratios

Option B deos not provide anything

So it is A

I cannot figure out a relation that is directly giving Su/Sl = Constant

After you simplify the two equations it gives 18 = 4Sl + 6(Sl/Su) Thus you can't get the ratios eliminating x from two equations, you definitely need the value of x which you get from statement 2

So answer is C

I wonder what OA is and what is the source of this question, seems to be a challenge question

C too.

1) is not enough to get the ratio, coz u dont know the distance.

2) alone is obviously not enough, but it provides the distance.


together, they are sufficient.
