Hi all,
can you help me with choosing schools?
I am looking for career opportunity in Luxury industry (both in Europe and Asia)
and got admitted from both SDA Bocconi and ESSEC.
[SDA Bocconi]
pros
- campus located in city center (and new campus)
- I prefer Italian than French (not familiar to non of the language though)
- more Italian brands even in LVMH and Kering (found employees more in Milano than Paris in both companies)
- well reputated
cons
- not many alumni from my country
- recent crisis in Italy (corona virus and struggling economy)
[ESSEC]
pros
- LVMH and Kering (is there real merit?)
- better economy situation
- many alumni from my country
cons
- hard to learn french
- comparably low ranking

Welcome to Gmatclub. I suggest to take SDA Bocconi because if its reputation in Italy for Luxury Mgmt.. ESSEC is really good for MiM but no sure about Luxury Mgmt. Italian will be easier to understand and speak because the pronunciation follows the basic sounds. Milan is a hub and you will have a good alumni network. Consider one thing that the salaries in Italy are generally not so well balanced. I mean to cost of living and the compensation given

YANGTUREE : Hello there , First of all congrats to you for making it to the two best European schools out there for luxury brand management.
I myself have an admit from Essec for luxury brand management for 2020 intake.
Essec has been my top priority followed by bocconi for several reasons. First of all Essec has close to 25 years history of providing luxury brand management track. Paris being the epicentre for several HQs helps even more when it comes to networking sessions and cocktail dinners. I also like the fact that Essec has a strong alumni base especially in luxury.
I was a bit skeptical of italy because of it being a small economy and obviously the job market would be way more difficult compared to that of france whose economy is huge. These factors made me chose Essec over bocconi. Yes , I need to learn french and it can be tough , but this is one thing where in I am willing to put in that extra effort it need be.
Now coming to rankings , I learned that Essec's ranking is way lower than bocconi's. The school told me that this is because earlier they had all their different specializations as separate MBA course and only few years back they came up with a GMBA program incorporating the tracks together , which contains close to 60% track specific courses and the rest being common courses. Hence it would take sometime for Essec's GMBA to climb up the rankings.
But I'm pretty sure that you have two awesome colleges in ur hand and whichever you choose you are bound to do well. Goodluck..
