I like the solution - it’s helpful. Why don't we set the two distances equal to each other if, in one instance, the constant x is getting lower, and in another, it's getting faster? I had 24x+2=30x-2.

Your setup works:
24x + 2 = 30x - 2
6x = 4
x = 2/3
d = 24*2/3 + 2 = 18 km
