For this, I did simple maths: we know he travelled 12 hours and the second day he travelled 4 more so the first day he travelled 4 hours and the second day he traveled 8 hours. And there is a difference of 10 miles in the speed, so option A is eliminated. I then solved via option method - (40*4 + 30*8) this does not equal 280 miles. Went to next option, (30*4 + 20*8) which equals 280 miles. hence, for first day he travelled at an average speed of 30mph and for day 2 it was 20 km/hr (difference of 10 mph already given). Option C

Please let me know if solving questions, in this manner is okay during examination.
