I did not quite understand the solution. X/Y=5/8--Y=8X/5---> Y Can be a multiplier of 8 which is 48,56,64,72,80,88,96
(X+N)/(Y-N)=7/6--> 6X+6N=7Y-7N-->13N=7Y-6X==26X/5--->N=2X/5
After change--> X becomes X+2X/5== 7X/5 multiple of 7 which is 49,56,63,70,77,84,91,98

Since X can be only 70, Y should be 8*14=112
We have an answer which is total of X and Y, but is not meeting the criteria of between 45-100.

You cannot match the possible values of initial Y with those of final X; they are different quantities and need not be equal.

Initial Y = 8a and final X = 7a. Both conditions allow a = 7 through 12, so the total 13a is not unique.
