I did not quite understand the solution. how about if we put
x, x-9, and x-10 as the heights?

If you put the heights as x (Porthos), x-9 (Aramis), and x-10 (Athos), the median would still be x-9, and the mean would be (x + (x-9) + (x-10))/3 = (3x - 19)/3 = x - 6.something, which is still greater than the median.
