That was oversight on my part, didn't get the statement 2 properly.

Bunuel If statement 2 was "units digit of n is not a multiple of 3". Then C would have been correct right?

No. Consider:

54 - 12 = 42 --> 5 - 1 = 4
60 - 18 = 42 --> 6 - 1 = 5.

m=10x+y
n=10a+b
we need to find out x-a=?
Statement 1:
m-n=10(x-a)+(y-b)

as x, y, a and b all are digits. there differences cannot be more than 9 and the difference will always be integer.
m-n=42
10*4 +2, x-a= 4 and y-b=2 possibile
10*3 +12 y-b=12 , not possible
10*2+22 y-b =22 not possible
10*1+32 y-b =32 not possible
10*0+42 y-b =42 not possible

Hence m-n=4 and y-b=2 so Statement is sufficient.

Statement2 : Not sufficient.

A is the correct option. Please explain where I went wrong.
