Official Solution:

Which of the following does NOT equal 25.25?

A. \(25\frac{1}{4}\)
B. \(0.2525*10^2\)
C. \(25+0.25\)
D. \(\frac{104}{4}\)
E. \(\frac{2,525}{100}\)

We’ll go for ALTERNATIVE because the question asks us to examine the answers.

(A) As we know: \(25\frac{1}{4}=25+\frac{1}{4}\), and \(\frac{1}{4}=0.25\). Therefore \(25\frac{1}{4}=25+0.25\), which equals 25.25. Not the correct answer.

(B) Move the decimal point 2 spaces to the right, so it becomes 25.25. No!

(C) This is similar to (A). No!

(D) \(\frac{104}{4}=\frac{100}{4}+\frac{4}{4}=25+1=26\). Not 25.25! We can stop looking – that’s our answer.

Answer: D
