Many animals do not need sunlight to live. Several species of fish were found on such depths as 10 kilometers and lower. These animals live under extreme pressure, in total darkness and without oxygen. Scientists predict that more specimen that never see sunlight will be found on the floors of the oceans within the next five years.
The statements above, if true, best support which of the following conclusions?
a. Planets such as Mars probably have life organisms below the surface of the planet or in its frozen oceans.
b. Scientists will look for funding to execute searches for new life on the floors of the oceans within the next year, as the economy is predicted to be on the rise and therefore it will be possible to find all necessary funding to conduct the research for the next five years.
c. Fish and other life forms that live on the floors of the oceans will not survive if either taken to the surface of the oceans or if global warming continues on it's pace.
d. After Sun ceases to warm the Earth, life forms that do not need sunlight or warmth, like those found on the floors of the ocean, will survive and then fight for dominance on Earth.
e. It is critical that search for new life forms that do not require sunlight or oxygen and live in extreme pressure environments is conducted in order to construct theories of whether humans will ever be able to live on distant planets such as Mars.

Premises: Many animals do not need sunlight to live. Several species of fish were found on such depths as 10 kilometers and lower. These animals live under extreme pressure, in total darkness and without oxygen.
Conclusion: Scientists predict that more specimen that never see sunlight will be found on the floors of the oceans within the next five years.
Best choice that SUPPORTS conclusion:
a. What do we care about Mars? out of scope
b. WINNER... exactly what I was looking for... funding is available, search starts soon and funding is available for the next 5 years... good opportunity to find those poor creatures who have never seen the light
c. the question is whether they will be found... if they survive or not is irrelevant. out of scope
d. same as C... animals need light/warmth or not is not an issue... out of scope
e. Oh... mars again, some crazy theories how to tie those poor unfounded animals... LETS find them first (that is what the argument it)... and then draw crazy theories like that... OUT of scope

agreeing with you also go with B.
how do we know that mars has ocen. ok, we agree tha mars has ocen but how do we expect that the frozen ocen has life organism. so A seems incorrect.
Just to make things clear. I don't like (A) either. However, (B) is far far away. If the probably in (A) were replaced with may, it would do it clear winner here. As it is, I can't see anything better.
B is concerned with the last sentence of the argument and misses the others
A is concerned with the second sentence of the argument and misses the others.

B supports the question stem. A is supported by the question stem.
SO? Am I crazy? I see nothing in A still.. the question is to find conclusion... which it to find the statement that SUPPORTS the premises...
So the stem claims that there are animals that can live without oxigen, in extreme temperatures and presure. Does that mean that the scientists will look for more funding to continue their research? I don't think so. Does that mean that on other planets, which previously considered lifeless because they don't have oxigen but have extreme conditions, may actually exist life? Well, probably.
Really confusing one......... Hats off to Praet for such questions.......
A and B are the only ones that stand any chance.......
But my choice is B.
A is a little far fetched. We are comparing two different planets without any mention of their similarities or differences in the passage.
Whereas B, does give a support for the conclusion. That with funding the scientists will be able to carry on their research and may end up finding new species.
The correct answer is A.
a. Having so many organisms that live in extreme environments here on Earth is a good suggestion that there are life forms on other planets, such as Mars (note that the discussion is about planets such as Mars, not Mars only, so the theme of this statement is life organisms on other planets in general).
b. Is a tempting choice but is not a very good conclusion as it includes pieces of evidence not presented in the question stem - the state of the economy and the possibilities for raising funds.
c. Out of scope.
d. Out of scope.
e. Claims too much - it's one thing to compare life organisms on Earth and on other planets, while it's something different to compare life organisms here on Earth to the possibility of human life on other planets.
