i backsolved this one.
As we know
marla will complete 1/2 lap in a minute
and
nick will complete 1/5 lap in a minute
i took option c and calculated how many laps willl be completed in 12 min
marla will complete 6 laps
nick will complete 2 laps
and the difference b/w them is 4

See if my reasoning is correct.
Both of them ran an equal number of time. Assuming they stopped when Marla was 4 laps ahead. Then their time is equal.
Tm = Tn
Now distance will be only equal to each other when we add 4 laps to the person who did NOT finish additional 4 laps. Simply put, 4 additional distance must be added to Nick who is behind 4 laps in order to set both distances to each other.
Dm = Dn + 4.
Their rates are given. 32 and 12. And D = RT
32t = 12t + 4.
We find that t is 1/5th. 1/5th of 1 hour is 12 minutes.
Would say still hard to solve within 3 minutes if the concepts are not grasped 100% percent.
