(B), (D), and (E) change the meaning. (C) omits the “do” needed to focus the contrast with married women who “do not.”

The correct answer is (A).

Hmm, the question should not rely on our sense that the meaning has changed unless one of the meanings is clearly wrong. Since A has no claim to be the "original," we could just as well say that A changes the meaning. Also, since the GMAT would be unlikely to endorse any criticism of a potentially vulnerable group such as young single mothers, the less judgmental (if somewhat vaguer) option of B might be a better choice.
