What I mean is that the NUS business/economics/accounting/finance are ranked pretty highly in some subject-wise rankings. Like, check out the following links:

I seriously hope people don't base their decisions based on these rankings solely :)

Then what do you suggest people should base their decision on regarding academic quality of a school? :)

Hello Louis!
I didn't get your question. Do you mean people should base their decisions on academic quality offered by the school? Well, that would be one parameter to look at when picking schools.
However, if academic quality is that important, there are several public schools in France and Germany (just an example) which are equally good in terms of academic reputation. Why then spend several $$ to go to a private school like HEC/ESSEC/Oxford?
From my experiences, I've understood 'brand reputation for employment' is one of the core driving factors behind a typical applicant's choice of schools. But then, you need to take a look at the curriculum offered, duration of the course, networking opportunities, alumni network who would be willing to help you, corporate partnerships, any option that would help enhance your CV (and no, it's not just limited to clubs and associations) before full-time job application cycles kick off , clarity in terms of where you want to be eventually after B-School and how does this school help you get there, etc.

Yes, brand name matters and you might've gotten into Oxford MFE. But if you don't already have solid work/internship experience on your CV, do you really think you'll be marketable to the employers with a 1 year degree? It's a real hit or miss situation, something you don't want to be in after spending a considerable amount of money in tuition fees and living expenditures. God forbid, if you took on debt to fund your degree!
Maybe I went overboard with the length of my response but it hurts me when people simply look at ranking lists and start applying to the top 10 without probing further if those schools would really do them a favor. There's frankly no alternative to meticulous research when submitting applications.

P.S - I could write an entire blog on what I learnt from my 3/4 years of experience in researching schools for myself; if that's something the moderators would be interested in having on this forum

I really appreciate the honesty with which you answered, my friend. I totally agree with you and your answer covered what I meant to ask. I am going to pursue MSc Finance at the NUS, starting this fall. Honestly, I haven’t done years of research but I know that NUS is amazing school. Given the logic in your earlier response, I am intrigued to know your take on the NUS MFin, and, if you haven’t researched that program specifically, NUS Business School overall.

NUS MFin is a new program but the reason I chose it is because of the incredible legacy of NUS Business School. The school’s credentials are world class and I felt assured that regardless of how old or new the program is, the school’s quality academic staff, global reputation, and sound Singaporean financial sector would not hopefully leave me regretting my decision after graduating. God forbid.

Yet, I want to know what you have to say. Thanks.

Thank you.
I'm not an expert on Asian/APAC schools but I do know NUS is a strong brand name. With that said, I've no idea what you want to do with that degree, your citizenship and work authorization rights, why Singapore, why NUS, if you'll return home for full time work and wish to just get the 'study abroad' experience, etc. You could drop me a message!

Agree! Ranking should not be the only criteria for selecting a business school. A lot of useful stuff has been written on GMAT Club on how much rankings really matter in the application process and how to use them. Although most of these articles have been written from MBA perspective, I am sure they, to a large extent, also apply to Master programs.

I am giving below links of few such articles for interested viewers...
https://gmatclub.com/blog/2019/04/do-mb ... gs-matter/
https://gmatclub.com/forum/mba-rankings ... 64869.html
this is BB's post on the value of brand name programs (consistently highly ranked) in the long run..https://gmatclub.com/forum/value-of-a-t ... 13365.html

and finally, you do not want to miss Maria's this video..

Is there any explanation for the salary of HEC paris? I mean compared to St.Gallen which is located in Switzerland, where salaries are generally higher, how can HEC pull a 150k compared to 116k in sT.Gallen?
