Masters in Finance - Schulich vs Queens?

Masters in Finance - Schulich vs Queens? [#permalink] New post   06 Oct 2018, 00:16
Hello guys

I am planning to pursue Masters in Finance at Schulich or Queens in Toronto, Canada. Can you tell me which is better to choose if I wish to make a career in Finance?

Advantage of queen's is classes take place twice a week whereas Schulich is a full time program.

However, I have heard that Queen's curriculum is not of very good quality as its a CFA prep course. Is it true?

Kindly suggest.

My brief profile: 28 year old with an MBA from NMIMS, Mumbai, India (4.5 year work experience on credit side). I have cleared CFA level 2 (June 2018).

What is your point fo doing MS in finance while you are certified CFA and has an MBA?

I actually am from India with no Canadian degree or work experience. As I have understood from PR holders and immigrants in Canada, employers in Canada prefer local degree and/or local experience. Also, Toronto has highest number of CFA charterholders and I felt (correct me if I am wrong) employers might give preference to local degree holders.

Kindly advise.

You are totally correct but you can think in MBA degree which will make sense in your case. Aside, you must choose where the capital of Canada which is Toronto. Always think of being close to the place of your dream job in order to build your network. I would vote for Schulich without hesitation.

I actually have done an MBA from India and also want to be in Finance segment.

MBA are mostly longer in tenor and also more expensive (almost double the cost). I have heard MBA of Schulich is really good.

However, Queen's has an advantage of having classes twice a week for their MFin program and these classes happen in downtown, Toronto. In terms of university ranking also, Queens has generally ranked higher.

As per you, why would Schulich be better?

Its MBA name is widespread. So I choose it. However, I advise you to contact current students and check career reports.
