Hi,

My target is only 600.
However, I got 580(q 39+ v29) at the 1st test and q41 in the 2nd test at mba.com after three months gmat study.
I wonder what the expectation of the real exam will be. Can it be 580 or 590?
Can I take a real exam for 600?

I finished all MGMAT math books and some MGMAT verbal books.
I also solved math 50 questions from starting question number 100.

That would be great if you can give any advices

Thanks

I have heard people say that mba.com is the closest representation of your actual scores with some slight variations on your test day scores. Try doing some more a OG problems so that you will be more comfortable with test like questions and see if your scores will improve?

Hi zmzm,

Many Test Takers become too fixated on the 'implied level' of the questions that they're working on - instead of what really matters: defining WHY they're getting questions wrong and becoming more efficient at approaching the overall Exam. It's also worth noting that just because a 3rd party describes a question as "700 level" does not necessarily make it so.

From what you describe, there were clearly some Quant questions that you COULD have gotten correct, but did not. In addition, if you spent too much time on some of the harder questions - and had to 'rush' through other questions later on (and got some of those questions wrong) - then we need to know that. It sounds as if you did NOT complete all 31 Quant questions; if that's the case, then you were penalized for not answering those last questions at the end.

This is all meant to say you probably could have scored higher than 600 on this CAT, but if you want to consistently hit that type of Score, then you are going to have to make some changes to how you 'see' (and respond to) the Exam. Before I can offer you any additional advice for your studies, it would help if you could provide a bit more information on how you've been studying and your goals:

Studies:
1) What study materials have you used so far?
2) How have you scored on EACH of your CATs (including the Quant and Verbal Scaled Scores for EACH)?

Goals:
3) When are you planning to take the GMAT?
4) When are you planning to apply to Business School?
5) What Schools are you planning to apply to?

Hi zmzm,

The good news is that as long as you follow a thorough and detailed study plan as well as a realistic timeline, then YES, your score goal is attainable. With that said, would you like some detailed advice on how to improve your GMAT quant and verbal skills?

Hi zmzm,

Do you have an Official Test Date scheduled yet? I ask because if you're planning on taking the GMAT this month, then most of the available appointment times are probably already taken - meaning that if you want to take the GMAT on a specific day/time, then you'll need to schedule that appointment soon.

If you Score Goal is 600+, then you're remarkably close to that Score right now. The good news is that you do NOT need to correctly answer any of the really hard/weird questions to earn that type of Score, but you do need to keep the little mistakes to a minimum. Based on your CAT Scores, you have a great opportunity to pick up the missing points that you're after in either the Quant or Verbal sections, so you could focus on either one during this next phase of your studies.

1) Going forward, how many hours do you think you can consistently study each week?

Thanks for the great advice.

1) Going forward, how many hours do you think you can consistently study each week?
=> I can spend 1 -2 hrs /weekdays and 8 hrs /weekend

Let me know if I can increase from 580/600. My ultimate goal is 650+. Thx

Hi zmzm,

At this point, there's a significant difference between raising your current level to a 600 and raising it to a 650+. If your ultimate goal is 650+, then you will likely need at least another 1 - 2 months of consistent, guided study to get to the point that you can consistently score at that higher level. Since we're already 1 week into September, if you plan to take the GMAT this month, then you won't have much more than about 3.5 weeks of study time - and that might not be enough time.

If you're not planning to apply to Business School until January, then you might want to push back your planned Test Date into October (or later) so that you can get the additional study time that you probably need.

1) Do you have an Official Test Date yet (and if so, then what is it?)?

Hi zmzm,

It looks like you are already very close to your target. The practice exam on MBA.com is a pretty good measurement of how you will do on the actual exam. It will probably be a good idea to do a bit more preparation, specifically targetting your weaknesses, so that you can safely hit your target!

No I do not have it since I am still practicing OG problems. I do not like to waste money. It may be early Oct.
Nevertheless, I have any score, but I keep studying to attain 650+

Hi zmzm,

You've stated a clear and reasonable Score Goal - and you seem to understand that it will take a certain amount of time to get to that point - so I think that you have the right mindset to earn that type Score.

Based on everything that you’ve described, I think that you would find the EMPOWERgmat Total Score Booster to be quite helpful. Most of our clients complete that Study Plan in well under 2 months, so the time commitment wouldn't be that bad. We have a variety of free resources on our site (www.empowergmat.com), so you can 'test out' the Course before setting up an Account.

If you have any additional questions, then you can feel free to contact me directly at any time.
