According to a few conversion tables, 60-100 is a 4.0 GPA.

If the conversion scale is not mentioned, first division in India counts as 4 gpa (there are posts about this on GMAT Club). Good luck, you'll still need a higher GMAT though because most schools are aware of it, and they get a lot of Indians in Canada, so it might be helpful.

I remember getting into Rotman and about 50% class was Indian on whatsapp chat, of course I went elsewhere, but definitely take this into account. Feel free to reach out if you need any help with applications- Free call

Hello All,

I want to pursue MBA in Canada from a decent school.
However I have a GPA of 2.7 from an Indian College. Also I have 12+3 years education, 5 years of work experience. Do I stand any chance if I aim for a good gmat score?

Many thanks,

With GMAT scores around 680+, and a decently strong profile, you have good chances of getting into Rank 2 (Schulich) & Rank 3 (Ivey). Please send over the full profile and your GMAT score to get a profile assessment.

SnehaNair - a good GMAT score (hopefully with balanced Q&V) can offset your lower GPA. Also try to highlight any quant-heavy courses from your undergrad if you scored well there: this may alleviate any concerns about the quant abilities. A strong overall application includes strong: CV, essays, GMAT, work-ex, alignment of post-MBA goals, "fit"

Hello SnehaNair,

I hope you are doing well. Considering your academic background, with a GPA of 2.7 from an Indian college, it might be a bit challenging to get admitted to top-tier MBA programs in Canada. However, your chances can still improve if you can demonstrate significant improvements in other areas of your application.

Having a strong GMAT score can significantly balance out a lower GPA and effectively highlight your academic potential. Striving for a high GMAT score is a fantastic approach as it exhibits your preparedness to excel in the challenging academic environment of an MBA program. It is advisable to aim for a score that aligns with the competitiveness of your target schools.

Moreover, your substantial 5-year work experience is a valuable and compelling asset to include in your application. Emphasize your accomplishments in leadership positions and illustrate how your professional journey has aptly equipped you for the challenges and opportunities an MBA offers.

Furthermore, you can focus on crafting a compelling personal statement or statement of purpose that explains your low GPA, addressing any challenges you faced during your undergraduate years and emphasizing your growth and achievements since then.

Consider applying to a mix of schools, including those that are more lenient with GPA requirements or have a focus on candidates with strong work experience. Researching and targeting schools that align with your profile and career goals can increase your chances of acceptance.

Remember, each business school has its own unique admission criteria, and while a good GMAT score is important, it's not the only factor that schools consider. Strong recommendation letters, relevant extracurricular activities, and a well-rounded application can also make a difference.

In summary, while it may be challenging, you can still improve your chances of getting into a decent MBA program in Canada with a good GMAT score, strong work experience, and a well-prepared application.

Best of luck with your MBA journey!
