Work experience: foreign sales manager at my father’s paper company for 3 years. I managed 5 people and important contributions include adding some important European and Indian paper companies to our suppliers list.
In 2020 I helped procure PPE for a major European government and earned 7 figure USD in commission. After the deal, I was on a semi-retired mode and got really interested in medicine. I started a minor company selling Chinese herbs. I hope to leverage into real pharma in the future and as I dig deeper into the field I realize the importance of brushing up my scientific knowledge. The issue is I have no science background whatsoever. It seems easier for me to get an MBA and then transition to be a manager or investor in medicine. I’m not fixed on MBA. If there’s a more suitable degree, I’m open to suggestion. Which schools and/or degrees do you recommend?
Posted from my mobile deviceHi,
Congratulations on a excellent GMAT score.
Work wise, you are clearly a hustler and an entrepreneur. Your career goals sound in line with what you have done - however, it will be important to know the current venture's story to get a full picture - how long has that been around, how have you grown the company, what are future plans related to it, and what are your major achievements? Having some depth of experience in the current venture will solidify your career goals, as it will help you connect the dots better with the pharma/healthcare/wellbeing story.
So, your interests seem to lie more on the business side and not the science/technical side. I don't believe you need a science degree. You have the business smarts, now what you need is some formal training in business and a relevant professional network that help you succeed in your following ventures. Both of these will be well attained through an MBA. Moreover, your age at 29 years (and I guess work experience of ~5-6 years) justifies an MBA. You will be old for a master degree and they will not provide you with the business skills that you will need to grow as a business leader/Founder/investor. Hope that clarifies it.
In terms of specific b-schools- which region do you wish to do an MBA in? This is important because you will mostly form your strongest network in the region/ country where you do an MBA. Secondly, you may also consider a one year MBA versus a two year MBA and that again will define the choice of business schools.
