Has anything like this ever happened?

Wow didn’t know could apply early and get a shortlist repsonse early as well. I would imagine that they have some minimum thresholds for all the categories of applicants such as Indian male engineers etc. So I would image their process is not about eliminating by comparison but rather trying to select the profiles they are looking for.  Maybe if you could share your profile in depth it would be much clearer as to the reason behind it.

If you are asking about French as a second or a third language, no there is no preference for one language over another at the time of application. However, if you have a very high level of proficiency, such as a C1 or C2, and you pitch an eagerness to work in France post-MBA (for example), the adcom will surely take note of that as a positive thing.

Hi can my profile be evaluated : I have 3 + years of work experience in startups in Business Development , I don’t have international experience but I have onboarded few clients from Africa and the Philippines but most of my work was based in expanding regions in India. I have graduated from VIT with a 8.34 CGPA and have a 720 GMAT score.

adityabala - Would like to understand your work-ex better (e.g. the impact you’ve had in your roles, promotions, etc.) to assess the strength.

Broadly though, given that the # of years of work-ex isn’t high, and the international exposure is low, I would suggest a higher GMAT score (ideally 740+ or GFE equivalent) to increase your odds.

Another way to differentiate your profile is through ExtraCurriculars (based on your involvement) and aligning to some key themes that INSEAD values (e.g. sustainability).

First of all, your experience is on the lower side of average. To be honest, it may not be the best time for you to apply to INSEAD. But since you are still relatively young for INSEAD, you could take another 1-2 years to sharpen your profile in that direction. I suggest taking opportunities that promise a steep career upswing. For example, take on an international assignment or a challenging role in a geography you are not familiar with. Alternatively, look for opportunities in strategy and execution at a well-known startup that is going through a steep growth phase and work hard for 1-2 years to gain deserving recognition from the founders. Look for positions where you have the opportunity to work very closely with the founders and CXOs. There is also a lot of room for improvement on the GMAT front. You can speak with me directly to better assess your chances.

Hi Piscine15,

One of INSEAD ’s qualiyfying factors is international experience/ exposure (that means you regulary work on international teams). It will be important to understand your international exposure as you have mainly worked in deomstic markets (retail trade and PSU bank).

Secondly, elaborate on yoru current work experience. How large is your company? what kind of business do you do/ how much business per year? Moreover, given your work expeience what is teh need for an MBA and that from INSEAD?

You will have to convince the adcoms on these above accounts to have a fair chance. My recommedation would be to apply to other MBA programs as well where the international focus criteria is not as much. Oxford and HEC Paris come immediately to mind.

Hi I would like an evaluation of my profile
I have 4.2 years of work experience. I have an MBA from IIM Kozhikode and Btech from DTU. Worked with Siemens for 2 years and 2.5 yrs with EY as a strategy consultant- client facing role. All my clients at EY were international clients - Qatar, Vietnam (deployed for 2 months at Vietnam), Bangladesh and even Singapore(short stint). I have 730 in GMAT.

Hi Akshita712 hope this finds you well,
I would say better chances than many with multiple assignments in client offices (international focus). GMAT and the academic arc is decent. That gives me a good feeling. You already have an MBA, how you justify another one, not too long after the first, will be a critical point in the application. Showcase a steep learning curve and career progression. What are your goals? Show good insight into your goals strategy. Research. Avoid generic MBB goals without making a clear connection to what you will do at MBB. Just a personal observation- outside of the former MBB pool, at INSEAD MBBs prefer recruiting people from industry over Big 4 consultants. Those who come to INSEAD with non consulting backgrounds come with rich industry experience/focus and prior experience in execution. MBBs love to interview these profiles. Professionally, show a focus area in your application and build your motivation around it.

Akshita712 - interesting profile. Some thoughts and clarifications:

1. What motivates you for a second MBA: is it merely geographic shift, or any other reason(s)? And what are your career goals post MBA?

2. The strategy/ consulting role and international deployments are good angles. Assuming the EY role was after Siemens, having a strong narrative indicating your career arc, motivations to switch (e.g. were your projects on similar domains but with more/ wider clients), and career goals would be crucial, to bring out your differentiating factors and highlight the need for a second MBA.

3. INSEAD values involvement in ExtraCurriculars. Make sure to highlight your involvement in such activities, and how they helped you evolve.

Hope this helps a bit. Feel free to reach out for a deeper chat.

Nikhil97 - it’d be hard to answer w/o more context. How long have you been running your business? And have you also considered getting an LoR from your business client/ customer, vendor, etc.?

If one of your previous managers isn’t with that company anymore, you could use their current (ideally professional) email ID, or mention the lack of it (if they use a personal ID) in the additional/ optional essay, justifying the reason.

While selecting recommenders, it’d be good to prioritize ones who have worked closely (and for a good amount of time) w/ you, can provide specific anecdotes, and talk about your traits and motivations. Think of it as a supplementary angle to your application. For example, if you highlight the start-up experience in your essays and there is no recommender from this perspective, that wouldn’t be ideal.

Arvind

Nikhil97 Hi
If you have been running your business for some time and it has seen some growth or progress, ideally take at least one of the LORs from someone who is currently heavily involved in your business plan and is not family. However, if you decide to take the LORs from previous supervisors, it does not matter if they are in the same company or not. People change jobs all the time and move on in their careers. So you should not worry that your former supervisor is not employed by your former employer. Just make sure he makes the LOR submissions from an official ID (of his new company where he now works).

Hey, charan2943

Thank you for your post!

Firstly, your profile is very diverse, and I don’t think diversity is the specific issue here!

Coming to your profile, I would back your UG and PG percentage with additional courses you have done, any extra certifications, or something that would help the adcom understand your academic prowess. This could be one of the reason for rejection, you need to address it well in your Business school essays and interview.

Your Work experience is great, and with a tenure that long, you must have ample leadership examples, instances where you guided the team in a tight situation, and any awards won in your professional career. Your experience, along with your ECAs, can be your biggest asset. Business schools value applicants who can take initiative and are good team players, which can be very well highlighted through team sports, projects, and group assignments!

Also, with 8+ years of experience, you can definitely target top-tier B-schools. However, to help you better, I need to understand your post-MBA goals, why an MBA from a particular B-school will help you, and how well the school values are incorporated into your profile. Your interview debrief will also be essential. I would also like to know very minuscule points that you think might affect your chances. I am positive that with a stellar profile like yours, some adjustments in the representation of your profile aspects will get the job done!

I hope this helps! :)

Cheers!

@charan2943 An INSEAD MBA may be a long shot due to your age and India focus. However, I highly recommend applying to the PGPs at IIM A and IIM B (if you still fit IIM B’s work experience eligibility criterion). You may reach out for a candid discussion. I have helped doctors on the upper end of the age spectrum get into top Indian B-schools.

Dear charan2943,

Thanks for writing in.

We do not think that the diversity in your profile is an issue because there are plenty of solid talking points; besides, you did have an interview invite and that could not have been possible had the Committee not seen merit in your candidature.

It would be worth understanding how the interview went and what your proposed career goals were (of course, how feasible the goals were is an important aspect to understand, as well).

In short, there is nothing wrong with your profile; there is plenty of good; how well you were able to talk about your case during the interview is what needs to be understood.

All the best!

how much of a difference does R1 vs R2 (Jan’25 intake) create ? I am an indian applicant. I am almost done with the R1 application but would need a couple of more days to refine it to a satisfactory level. So I was thinking of pushing it to early R2.

Hi avi10,

the short answer is that, usually, it does not make that much of a difference.

R1 and R2 tend to behave very similarly when it comes to admissions. R3-R4 is a different story, more so for over-represented backgrounds/nationalities.

My advice is that it is better to submit a strong R2 application than a so-so R1 application.

However, considering that the R1 deadline is still 3 days away, in principle, there should be time for you to refine your application. I personally work with applicants in your same situation every round.

Feel free to email me at alex@arleeconsulting.com for a chat.

Warm regards

avi10 - Officially, INSEAD maintains that each round is equally competitive, though Rounds 1/2/3 typically receive more applications than R4 (thus leading to more seats being allocated in R1/2/3 than R4).

In practice, R1 and R2 usually tend to be similar (in terms of chances) compared to R3/ R4, particularly for international applicants. Echoing the above comment, it’s better to submit a stronger application in R2 than a rushed-up one in R1.

Hi @Nikhil97,

I wouldn’t say mandatory but at least some degree of international exposure is needed to get accepted to INSEAD.

Most students in the INSEAD class have international experience studying, working, or simply living outside their home countries. Some others may not have these types of experiences but have had international exposure at work through biz trips, working with international teams, clients... Even travels for leisure could also count as international exposure.

Someone with none of the above usually has a hard time getting accepted to INSEAD, more so, coming from an over-represented nationality. Just to put an example, an Indian with extensive international experience and 710 GMAT score would probably be given preference over an Indian with zero international exposure and a 780 GMAT score (everything else being equal, of course).

I hope this helps.

Warm regards
Alex

Just to put an example, an Indian with extensive international experience and 710 GMAT score would probably be given preference over an Indian with zero international exposure and a 780 GMAT score (everything else being equal, of course). I hope this helps. Warm regards Alex

I am someone from healthcare background and getting international experience is next to impossible in the field. Do u think they’ll consider the background while looking for international exposure? I have handled patients from Middle East and Eastern Europe but that’s it.

Hi Jyotimishra,

plenty of applicants with healthcare backgrounds have extensive international experience. I don’t know much about your specific background, so I don’t know whether this is your case. But even medical doctors working at local hospitals can have plenty of international exposure, for example, attending international conferences, trainings... And as I said in my previous post, even international trips for leisure could count.

So, I don’t think INSEAD is going to consider a background in healthcare incompatible with international exposure or experience.

Warm regards
Alex

Hello hello - a quick question! I just appeared for my gmat focus yesterday but did not realise that they have stopped sharing the unofficial scores.

How do you propose I tackle this in my application now considering the deadline is tomorrow and I might not receive the scores by then?

Hi Lawana911,

schools are well aware of what you mentioned and that, usually, it takes 3-5 days for your score report to show up on your mba.com account.

For now, you could simply upload any document in your application (e.g. a screenshot of your mba.com account saying that your report is still not available) and inform INSEAD about the situation in the Optional Essay. This will be enough for INSEAD to start processing your application while they wait for your official score report to come.

I hope this helps.

Warm regards

you can check under lor tab.. However please look at this "We encourage you to click on the link above as early as possible to allow them enough time to complete the form. Please note that your referees will be able to submit their recommendations online at any time, even before you submit your application. While your referees do have up to 48 hours after the Round deadline you are applying for, we strongly encourage you to submit your application a few days before the deadline, to ensure a smooth completion of your application material."

Hi Nikhil97,

for pure application purposes, uploading a screenshot onto your application will do for now. This is all INSEAD needs to start processing your application. But in parallel, you also need to send your official score report through GMAC. Even if it gets to the school in a few days.

I hope this helps.

Warm regards
Alex

No my friend - they respond to everyone with the latest date being 12 april for interviews. So in either cases, you will be contacted.

So, everybody is contacted by the admission office within one week.

And what about an interview shortlist?

That will be notified by 12th April, right?

You will receive 2 emails 1) acknowledging your application submission (this should be within a couple of days of you submitting) and 2) interview decision by april 12

My understanding is KIRA Essay is 4 questions with 45 seconds of preparation and 1 minute of video for each.

Now, Are there only 3 questions?

Very limited info to say anything concretely. What demography and geography, What is your workex like (trajectory, promotions and impact), what are your goals, what was your undergrad course and Uni, international experiences or interactions of any, and much more. Atleast from INSEAD’s perspective I would imagine the data points you shared are not enough to guage chances.
