How can we think while analyzing this sentences?
Exercising balances blood pressure, reducing the risk of heart attack.
a) Exercising balances blood pressure and this ( refer to all sentence ) reduces the risk of heart attack.
b) Exercising balances blood pressure and (exercising) reduces the risk of heart attack.
The second sentence :
Sympathetic activation also shortens systolic duration, which helps to preserve diastolic filling time.
a) Sympathetic activation also shortens systolic duration and this ( refer to all sentence ) helps to preserve diastolic filling time.
b) Sympathetic activation also shortens systolic duration and ( Sympathetic activation ) helps to preserve diastolic filling time.

Hm… question for you - what specifically are you asking?
I would say that I consideration that involves a pronoun reference would usually be weaker. It doesn’t mean it’s automatically wrong since GMAT is about finding the best answer among the choices but usually one with a vague pronoun reference would be a weak candidate… we did see some hard sentence question questions however that were the correct choice with a VPR.

Hello. I specifically chose it to be an easy sentence. I wanted it to be like both this for those who are confused about this issue like me and to make it easier to understand.

I like your that answer. But of course there are still things i want to ask.
If we were to reduce it to a single subject, would our way of thinking be wrong?

I often come across such statements in academic writings.
With prolonged increases in arterial pressure, the baroreceptor reflexes may mediate decreases in renal sympathetic nerve activity that promote increased excretion of sodium and water by the kidneys.
This, in turn, causes a gradual decrease in blood volume, which helps to restore arterial pressure toward normal.
What does '' which '' refer to here? '' This, in turn, causes a gradual decrease in blood volume '' or With prolonged increases in arterial pressure, the baroreceptor reflexes may mediate decreases in renal sympathetic nerve activity that promote increased excretion of sodium and water by the kidneys. This, in turn, causes a gradual decrease in blood volume
You'll probably say both because of '' which ''. but it could also be like With prolonged increases in arterial ..... .This, in turn, causes a gradual decrease....., helping to restore .....
If so, how should we think?
I know I took too long. maybe i wrote mixed, but this issue is very important for me, i don't want to make mistakes
