Mentioning PhD. as my post MSF plan good or bad ?

Question

Since schools care alot about their placements I was wondering how will mentioning the fact that I'll pursue PhD. and a afterwords a career in teaching/researching affect my application ?
I know that schools are generally looking for impressive names in esssays but how bad can a PhD plan look ?
Or should I fabricate a different career path ? :roll:

Definitely do not fabricate a career path. If academia is your focus, then that's what you should talk about because it will contain true passion, which is tough to fabricate. And b-schools love genuine passion and a focused vision. Also, since it's rare to go into academia with an MBA, it could actually help differentiate you. Make sure you explain why you want the MBA, though, despite the fact that the MBA is typically a terminal degree. The answer of course is that with an MBA, it will be much easier to teach MBA candidates and will provide credibility to you as an instructor. Good luck!

I believe the OP mentioned PhD as post MSF plans and not post MBA. My guess is PhD is a relatively common and accepted progression after MSF?

Depends on the MSF program. There are so many variations of MSF programs out there, I've lost track of them all.

If the MSF (I am assuming this is MS in Finance/Finance Engineering, etc) is a variation of applied mathematics, some schools want candidates who wants a career in financial services right after the program. After all, some of these programs make their reputation by placing nearly 100% of their class with financial services firms. So do the research beforehand. Different schools have different objectives.

My bad--i see now in subject line about MSF vs. MBA. I agree with other posts that this would be a natural progression. Building a solid academic career requires many steps. Good luck as you make your way towards tenure!
