MGMAT and OG guides??

Question

I am a newbie here. Thinking of taking GMAT around June 2011. Was planning on buying the MGMAT guides, but not sure if I need to buy the OG guides too. I hear MGMAT has answers to all OG guide questions. Please advice.

MGMAT=good for learning the basics of how to work all the types of problems you'll see on the GMAT. 
OG=good for practicing on problems from previous GMATs

You can do fine if you do MGMAT without OG, but OG minus the MGMAT is not likely to help you a whole lot. Ideally you would do some mix of OG problems either during or after learning all the concepts in the MGMAT, along with doing a few CAT exams here and there.

I urge you to use all three OG books alongside the Manhattan series. These questions will help to reinforce the concepts learned.

I agree with the posters above. OG 12 is an absolute must for a good preparation (even better if you can incorporate the OG Quant and OG Verbal guides in your study plan). These guides will complement the MGMAT material in your preparation.

For answers and explanations to the OG problems in MGMAT, they have a guide called MGMAT Official Guide Companion. It's a very useful resource.

Do the MGMAT guides refer to problems in the OG? I plan on working through the strategy guides, but I want to know if I should simultaneously work on the OG or if the strategy guides will refer me to OG problem as I complete them.

Looking for the best way to tackle this.

Hi snpatel1,

The MGMAT guides do refer to problems in both the OG and in the Quant and Verbal reviews. At the end of each sections (basic and intermediate and advanced), you will have a set of OG problems which complement what you learned throughout the sections.
