Miguel can complete a job at work in 7 hours, while Eric can complete the same job in h hours. When Miguel and Eric work together it takes them 4 hours to complete the job. How many hours does it take Eric to complete the job by himself?

Miguel completes the work in 7 hours.
In 1 hour he can complete 1/7th of the work
Similarly Eric can complete 1/h of work in an hour
When working together they complete the work in 4 hours
Hence, they complete 1/4th of work in 1 hour together.

1/7 + 1/h = 1/4
Solving for h
4(7+ h) = 7h
h = 28/3(Option D)

1/7 + 1/h = 1/4
1/h = 1/4 - 1/7
1/h = 7/28 - 4/28
1/h = 3/28
h = 28/3

Miguel's 1 hr work = 1/7
Eric's 1 hr work = 1/h
Together 1hr work = 1/4

thus 1/7+1/h=1/4
(7+h)/7h=1/4
28+4h=7h
3h=28
h=28/3
