You are in a slightly tough position with 12 years of experience. You are most definitely on the older side for traditional full-time MBA programs where the average years of work experience is 4-6. Also, coming from a competitive demographic, you'll face some headwinds in the admissions process.

If you are looking to round out your profile with general management training, you might want to consider Executive MBA programs or part-time MBA programs. Not only will those be a better fit but you will also have a significantly easier time getting into than the full-time MBA programs.

I would look at programs like Northwestern Kellogg, Yale SOM, MIT Sloan and Michigan Ross to get you started.

Please reach out to us if you would like to discuss further.

The reason i don't want to opt for EMBA is that it would not allow me to change domain and industry, while not having the opportunity to network would also beal breaker for me.

Considering this I think regular MBA would be more suitable for me.

Yes, you are right that that's the tradeoff. The hard part is actually getting admitted to full-time MBA programs with your experience. You are kind of stuck in this odd middle ground of being more experienced for the full-time program but slightly less experience for the EMBA.

That said, you have a great background and there are plenty of 30+ students in the top programs. Make sure you start early and apply to a good number and range of programs to give yourself the best possible chance. If you get into one or several programs - fantastic! If not, you can certainly reassess at the time.

If we can be of help to you in this process, please let us know.

Best,

Hi,
Its must be fairly common question here, but i will go ahead and ask it again.

I (India/Engineering/Male) have 12 yr of work experience where i worked in core engineering projects (Hydropower) as an engineering consultant. I have risen in my company and gave 8yrs of International experience, where i worked on a Bi-lateral project (still working). I am also managing teams and a big project for past 3 years and loving it.

So, i decided to pursue MBA in General management. I have managed to get 740 in GMAT.

The reason i want to pursue General Management is that it includes managing different aspects of a business. It is something can relate with as I am doing this on daily basis and have gained knowledge of different aspects, both technical and commercial, of running a company.

I want to know what B-schools in US and UK would be a good fit for this profile?

Further, is there any other MBA specialization or Post MBA industry that can be good fit for someone with engineering experience?

I would appreciate if someone can give me his/her honest views on this.

Regards

Hello manmohit10,

Thanks for writing in.

The choice of schools will depend on your career goals, to a large extent.

That said 12 years of work experience would definitely be more suited to the UK and European geographies in comparison to the US. However, if you are very keen on applying to the US, we would suggest that you get some feedback on your profile from the Ad Com of your target schools to see how they really view your profile.

Overall the GMAT looks good and the international experience will add a lot of value; so, a lot depends on how well you bring your achievements together in your essays as well as your need for an MBA at this point in your career.

Should you feel the need for a detailed discussion, please feel free to get in touch with us for a profile evaluation session.

All the best!

Hello manmohit10,

Thanks for your query.

The domain of operations is well-suited to your overall profile. That said, to provide you with a more accurate, detailed response, we would need to evaluate your profile in greater details.

All the best!

Your age/experience may be too much for traditional MBA, have you considered EMBA programs? candidates with your profile often go for these programs which are suitable for more experienced candidates. You can also consider Full-Time Senior EMBA Programs like Stanford MSx and MIT Sloan Fellows: https://aringo.com/full-time-senior-emba-programs/
