Thanks tarkaston and Entwistle (especially for that comment on my essay error  ).

I found MGMAT in general tougher than Kaplan (though I scored my highest in MGMAT as far mock CATs go), especially the MGMAT Quant section. Kaplan was much more balanced. I found it very difficult to complete the Quant section in MGMAT CATs on time. Never had any such issue with Kaplan.

I have seen reviews of MGMAT CAT in which it was considered closer to the real CAT experience. I am not so sure about that though.

Honestly both are good for practice and the GMAT Prep will give you a better idea of where you stand. You can choose either of them or both and you will not be making a mistake in terms of practice. MGMAT has 6 online CATs which is more than what Kaplan offers (only 4 CATs, 2 they have are not really CATs). I got access to MGMAT CAT since I bought their SC book.

I just remembered something about CATs from these prep companies. One plus in favor of MGMAT is that for every question in Verbal section they explain not only why a certain question is correct but also in detail why others are wrong. This is a serious miss in Kaplan CATs.

Thanks for the insight :)
I have already attempted all 6 Manhattan CATs. I would be writing GMAT in July and I plan to take the Kaplan Tests in the month of June!

Congratulations!
Great debrief!
Soooo what do people do with their books(CR/RC 99) after they've conquered the GMAT? Does GC have a place to purchase used books from other members?

Hi
you have mentioned about RC 99. I am doing the same have reached rc 44 till now. want to know how the difficulty level of RC 99 can be compared to GMAT. is rc 99 easy or tough or the same level.
as i have reached medium difficulty level only and hard passages come after passage 66 so are the hard passages equivalent to difficulty level of gmat?
thanks

I found the RC 99 passages much tougher than the real GMAT passages. Moreover the RC 99 passages had many convoluted ideas presented which was not the case with GMAT. I guess you can safely ignore the time and try to read the passage critically, understand it and answer the questions.

With RC 99 some passages used to take close to 10 minutes for me and yet I used to get a few questions wrong but with GMAT that was not the case. Atleast in GMAT Prep I did not get any RC question wrong.

That's exactly how I have been doing the high difficulty passages of RC99 - in untimed mode. I have been told by a lot of test takers that RC99 high difficulty passages are more difficult than those on the GMAT and that if you do these passages you won't have much to worry about in the RC section of the actual test. Let's hope that is indeed the case :?

Thanks. I am targeting 1 year MBAs. I am in the process of applying for INSEAD Jan 2012 intake, R2. I hope to make it through here. In case I do not (hope I never have to consider this) I will have to consider LBS (even though its not a 1 yr MBA).
