I think you're not shoo-in at kellogg, but I don't know you're not admissible at kellogg. You said you got a 3.0 from a top liberal art college, colleges such as william&mary. These colleges are very well known around the country, especially in the adcom's eyes. 3.0 is below average, certainly, but you have a 710 on GMAT that can make it up as well. Your work experience, and the fact that you work for IBM, is going to play a big role in the admission process as well. Kellogg is one of the top of the top and is known for (partly) its strong consulting track. I do think you have a shot, but I just wouldn't bet all my money on kellogg, but rather, I'd diversify the school list, just as you have done.

Hello Jason

Since you are aiming for top schools then a score above 700 is desirable. Also the GMAT alone won’t determine your chances of admission; your work experience plays a vital role as well. You need to ensure that academically you are in a good position. However it is not just the academics but beyond the academics that will help you in determining your candidature.

Although you might need to prove to the admission committee that your GPA won’t be an issue. If you can tell in your application about the skills that you gained at work and beyond in the areas you had scored low-you need to indicate a positive learning.
Make sure you follow the ‘show rather than tell’ principle so that the admissions committee could really understand your strengths and differentiating factors.”

However it is not just the academics but beyond the academics that will help you in determining your candidature. Since you are coming from military- logistic related background this could help you in differentiating your profile from other candidates. This could be a ‘hook’ that will be key to your application

It is not just the work experience that counts but also what you did there like-what were your achievements, what initiative you took, what changes you drove in your workplace etc. So if you can show that in 3 years you have demonstrated the skills business schools are looking for you could still put in a strong set of essays and if not then you should try to improve your GMAT score.

Although it’s advisable to have some safe schools in your list.
