Hey there,
I'm a long-standing member of this forum and was a very active member when I was studying for my GMAT. Some of the old-timers might still remember me.
Just wanted to let you guys know what I have been upto lately.
Joined GC: 23 rd Aug 2003.
1st GMAT attempt: 29th Martch 2004, scored 630.
What went wrong: Apparently, reading comprehension in the verbal section.Still not sure what exactly happened.
Bought Kaplan 800, Princeteon Verbal Workbook and tons of other books to beef up my verbal score.
2nd attempt: 9th Sept 2004, scored 650.
Why only 20-point increase ? Again no idea. The GMAT algorithm got the better of me both the times. But still I decided to have a dry application run this year and applied to a few schools.
My profile:
G-650, TOEFL-287, Work Ex -4 yrs, (2 yrs Intenational) at Indian IT MNC.
Pro's: Promotion, Performance Appraisals ,Leadership Roles and Awards, Fair-to-Good Community Service intiatives.
Con's : Indian (demographic profiling), low GMAT score, ubiquitous job profile
Applied to :
CMU on 10th Jan 2005 ( Visit and voluntary interview on 8th Dec 2004)
Indian School of Business ISB on 12th Jan (Telephonic interview on 23rd Feb 2005)
Kelley on 14th Jan 2005 (Voluntary interview on 17th Nov 2004)
McCombs on 16th Jan 2005 (Interviewed on March 3rd 2005)
Goizueta on 24th Jan 2005 (Voluntary interview on 10th Jan 2005)
As Goizueta follows a rolling admission process, first school I heard back from was Goizueta. I received a email on Feb 16th saying that I was waitlisted. For a school with a average GMAT of 680, I thought that was a fair decision. Just after this started the ding season of the year with dings from ISB on March 1st, CMU on March 14th and Kelley on March 20th. I was down in the dumps and so decided to go back to India and gear myself up for the next app season by giving GMAT again in July.
April 1st 2005: One email changed it all. I received a email from Clare Seagraves, Asst Director MBA admissions saying that I have been accpeted to McCombs School of Business.
This marks an end to a succesful journey. Needless to say, GMATClub has played a huge part in this success ( If I can call it so.). Special Thanks to Praetorian, Paul, Bala (KPadma), Hjort, Anand, BB and others who have helped and encouraged me at every step.
If I can be of help in matters related to the admission process, I will be glad to do so.

Congrat on getting into McComb, which I consider to be an excellent program. My profile is very similar to yours (except for being Chinese), hence I know what you must have gone through. Will you stay in the US and go to McComb as you were thinking about heading back to India. Anyway, well done.
