My Story: HEC Paris Admit 2018!
Updated on: 09 Oct 2018, 01:31
Hi,
Here is my journey to HEC Paris while working with a top admission consultant.
Brief of my Profile: GMAT 760 (V-46, Q-49) 6 Years work experience (By July 2019) - Three years as Aerospace Design Engineer and Three Years as a Manager (PreSales) in India's leading Smart Parking Startup.
I had started out early writing the GMAT first in 2014 (700) when I had just over an year of work experience. I realised it was gonna take some serious work experience to break into the pool of aspirants making it into the top Universities I wished to attend.
I re-took the GMAT in 2015 and scored a 760. It is after this that the hard part started for me. Like everyone else I realised how underprepared I was to clearly express my goals and story, which is where the real completion begins in terms of International MBA applications. In 2017, I applied to ISB and NUS . I was invited for interview by both the schools. Unfortunately, I was rejected by both after interviews despite having worked with I worked with one of the top (and costly) MBA consultants in India during application phase. This really put me down and created a lot of self doubt. When comparing your-self to other high class applicants, it is easy to develop reservations about your own candidacy.
Yet, I backed myself and prepared to apply to top schools which had been on my mind all these years. Applying to my dream schools really motivated me and I started a thorough search to hire a new consultant for application assistance. After having engaged almost all top and well-known consulting services I zeroed down on GyanOne.
Hiring GyanOne and working with Rishab was the best thing I did in the course of this journey. The key differentiator for me was that unlike other top consultants Rishab didn't act as just an essay editor but a true friend and counsellor. He helped me see numerous gaps in my current story and goals and how I was linking my prior experience to what I wished to do post MBA. This was a surprising lesson for me as I considered my application to be pretty high standard having already worked with another top consultant last year.
Rishab helped me fill out those gaps and I really feel I would never have seen my own story the way I did without those discussions with Rishab. Like every candidate I had strong and weak points in my profile and to be honest I was a bundle of nerves having faced rejection already. Rishab handled all my doubts really well and despite having been at it for years, I realised there was much I did not know. Having a real expert like him by my side was what I needed. With a re-alignment of my story I also re-developed my confidence. Now I was internally knew what I was doing and I think it really came out in the essays and interviews. At every stage of the process I found GyanOne to be really supportive and doing an amazing job from their end which kept me motivated as well and at top of my game.
Another highlight was interview prep (this is what I had completely missed in previous years). It was just the most useful thing learning from the mock interviews I did with Swati from GyanOne. I realised that not preparing exclusively for an MBA interview had been a key weakness in last years application cycle.
So here is my tip for all you aspirants:
1) If you are looking for help, talk to everyone you are considering and judge them based on those interactions. Most services offer a profile review for not much cost and that is a good way to test out anyone. If you have done some basic prep you will be able to judge whether person on the other side will be helpful. 2) Additionally, do prepare exclusively for the interview and do some mocks regardless of how good you may think you are.
