So, I took a 2 day break and now all set to restart my journey ! I had a slight disappointing experience with GMAT two days back when I scored 640 (Q46, V32) after 4-5 months of consistent and strong preparation. The reason I say slight is because my mock scores were hinting towards this , they were in the range of 650-690 ,however, since I had already booked a date and I wanted to give the test and may be thought of getting done with it, I went ahead. But seems my study routine is here to stay for some more time.
I can blame a slight hiccup at the test day experience - I lost 2 minutes before the Verbal section as the administrator's password just simply did not work to log me again after my break and after that I panicked and lost time in RC !
However, when I am introspecting looking at the score, the lost 2 minutes may be could have helped for another 10-20 points but not more . I don't know what happened in Quant !!!
Quant : Q46 , this is certainly below my expectations as I consistently got Q49 in all GMATPrep mocks and I hoped to repeat the performance. However, seems I made a lot of mistakes in the test in the DS section. My weak areas were P&C and Inequality however I did not see any question on P&C and just 1 on Inequality.
Verbal : V32 - Verbal like a lot of other folks was my Achilles' heel and I just couldn't get enough confidence in SC before the exam day as well. What hit me in the test except for SC ( to which I am not sure how I fared) was the RC to which I admit , I did not give enough importance it deserved. I got too busy in my preparation on other sections of the test and I did not practice RC much in last few days.However, based on the suggestions of Gmat clubbers, I did start my preparations on RC with Aristotle Prep way back in Jan. However after that I think I just did not pay much heed and it led to the downfall.
But lesson learnt I would say , the hard way !:(
My target score was 720 when I started preparation, however after this attempt I have now decided that I will target for 730+.

OG 2016 (completed it from back to front)
OG 2016 Verbal (couldn't complete it all)
Quant - MGMAT strategy guides
OG 2012 - quant along with MGMAT books

I plan to start my SC preparation with MGMAT SC book, since I relied completely on Egmat course and did not read the bible of SC
(my bad !) . Not that I am saying Egmat course isnt good , its great ! But I feel I missed this important element in my preparation.
For Quant , I am just simply not sure from where to start.
I have completed all the topics and will start practice again with OG 12 or 13 as OG 2016 questions are just too fresh in my mind !
Kindly suggest some direction for self study. Also, at my current level, what do you think approximately how much time I would need to reach my target score? I wanted to give the test by early August and I am ready to put in as much effort as required.

I’m glad to see that you are gearing up for a retake. Did you get your enhanced score report so you can determine your percentile scores of sentence correction, reading comprehension, and critical reasoning? That report should give you some direction on where to focus your verbal study efforts.
For your quant prep, I do not suggest using another version of the official guide for practice. Even if you practice with the 12th or 13th edition you will see many of the same questions from the OG 2016. Also, while the Official Guide is a great book because it has official questions from past GMATs, there are not enough questions given about each topic to provide full exposure to all GMAT topics. Additionally, the questions are presented in a random order, so it’s challenging to use the OG for focused practice. Your reliance on the OG for your first attempt could have been why you saw a dip in your quant score on your GMAT.
For your retake, you should find a quant resource that 1) will provide more exposure to all GMAT quant topics and 2) will allow you to practice one topic at a time. For example, if you are practicing Number Properties you want to make sure that you can practice a variety of questions from that topic, e.g., LCM, GCF, prime factors, divisibility, remainders, etc. The results of that practice will help you to determine how well you have mastered that topic and to determine your remaining weaknesses within that topic. Such focused practice should help you further build your quant knowledge and help you achieve your goal of a 49+ GMAT score.

While it sounds like you're disappointed in this score, a 640/Q46 is still a good score (it's just shy of the 80th percentile overall), so it could be enough to get you into your first-choice Business School. GMAC has publicly stated that the Official Score that you earn on Test Day is within +/- 30 points of actual ability. Assuming a similar 'swing' in how your CATs function, your CAT score results show that you essentially performed the same each time (+/- a few points) and your Official Score is at the lower end of that range. By extension, this means that your current skill level is right around 670 or so.
Thankfully, you CAN train to score at a higher level, but you're going to have to learn to 'see' (and respond to) the GMAT in new ways. You've already self-analyzed some of the areas that you need to work on, which is good. However, if you're just going to work through the same practice materials in the same ways as before, it's likely that you will score at the same general level. Ultimately, a 730+ score will require that you improve in BOTH the Quant and Verbal sections - so you will likely need to invest in some new materials and learn/practice some new Tactics.
